Cervia coastal protection and management
Overview
In Cervia, coastal management efforts are being implemented to protect the shoreline from autumn and winter storm surges. Starting October 12, work will begin to raise sand dunes along approximately nine kilometers of the coast to create an artificial barrier designed to mitigate wave energy and reduce erosion for urban areas and beach establishments.
This project is funded by an annual investment of approximately 300,000 euros from 200 concessionaires associated with the Cooperativa Bagnini di Cervia. Alongside these physical defenses, the FAI (Fondo Ambiente Italiano) is organizing a conference titled ‘Le dune che rinascono’ (The dunes that are reborn) to address the conservation of coastal habitats, biodiversity, and the relationship between beaches, pine forests, and urbanized areas.
