Following the broadcast, the regulator Ofcom recorded 9,656 complaints between August 18 and August 24. Critics have described the content as containing ‘oversimplified observations and sensationalist soundbites’ that could damage those affected by the condition. In response, Channel 4 defended the programme, stating its remit includes providing a platform for alternative views, stimulating public debate, and challenging the status quo. ADHD UK has also issued an open letter asserting that the condition is not scientifically controversial and is recognized by major bodies including the World Health Organization, the NHS, and NICE.
