Cherokee Nation fiscal and social programming

Overview

The Cherokee Nation has moved forward with significant financial and social programming. In late September 2026, the Tribal Council approved a $3.6 billion budget for fiscal year 2027. This budget prioritizes healthcare, education, and public safety, including $511 million for capital construction projects such as the Claremore Emergency and Outpatient Health Center and the OU Nursing Campus in Tahlequah.

Following this budgetary approval, the administration advanced a $50 million childcare initiative. As of late October 2026, the plan to allocate these funds toward childcare needs within the Cherokee Nation reservation has moved closer to implementation after clearing a Tribal Council committee. This initiative follows other recent tribal efforts, including the opening of a $22 million childcare center in Catoosa and new programs designed to combat period poverty in schools.
