Chihuahua public lighting LED modernization

Overview

The municipal government of Chihuahua has implemented an extensive modernization of its public lighting system, transitioning to LED technology. Initially, the project focused on rural areas, completing the replacement of over 1,350 luminaries across 65 ejidos to benefit more than 2,000 residents.

As the initiative progressed, the administration reported that 95 percent of the total municipal network is now operating with LED technology. Over a five-year period, more than 88,000 luminaires were replaced across 930 neighborhoods, impacting over 850,000 residents.

To manage the new infrastructure, the city has introduced telegestión technology for remote monitoring on major roads and launched a solar-powered lighting pilot project at Villa Juárez Park. The transition is expected to generate energy savings exceeding 42 million pesos in 2025 compared to the previous year.
