Child abuse and exploitation arrests in Nigeria

Overview

Police in Nigeria have conducted several arrests involving the abuse and exploitation of children in Anambra and Edo States.

In Anambra State, authorities arrested two women for distinct crimes. One woman was apprehended in Obosi for allegedly torturing her seven-year-old daughter with a hot knife. In a separate Onitsha case, a woman was arrested for the alleged sexual abuse of her daughter and for distributing the content online for profit, reportedly earning approximately $300 from an overseas client.

In Edo State, police arrested two men for child-related offenses. One suspect was apprehended in Jattu for the alleged defilement of his six-year-old stepdaughter. Another individual, a self-styled prophet, was arrested for the alleged abduction of five girls between September 2025 and April 2026. One victim, a 15-year-old girl, was reportedly impregnated as a result of the abductions.
