Child abuse investigations in Hanoi kindergartens

Overview

Authorities in Hanoi have launched investigations into separate incidents of alleged child abuse at local kindergartens.

In the first case at Hoa Tra My II Kindergarten, an investigation was ordered after parents reported unusual behavior in a student. Camera footage confirmed that a probationary teacher used physical force, such as pinching, due to a lack of emotional control. An assistant teacher was also found to have improperly handled a student and failed to report the incident. The kindergarten has since terminated the probationary teacher’s contract.

In a separate incident at the ‘Bay Cao Uoc Mo’ independent kindergarten, authorities are investigating allegations that a teacher, Phan Thi Thanh B., physically assaulted a 22-month-old girl. Preliminary findings suggest the teacher moved the child to a corner obscured from cameras to slap her face and struck the child’s legs during nap time. Medical examinations identified minor injuries to the child’s gums. Local police are currently clarifying responsibilities and implementing child protection measures.
