Child spending family savings on Roblox gift cards
Overview
An 11-year-old boy in Ontario, Canada, used approximately US$ 2,000 of his family’s emergency savings to purchase Roblox gift cards at a Walmart store. The child reportedly separated from his grandmother during the visit and conducted two separate US$ 1,000 cash transactions to bypass the store’s single-purchase limit.
The boy’s parents, Hong Jin and Jason Kim, sought a refund for the funds, but Walmart declined the request. A company spokesperson stated that the retailer reviewed the transactions and determined that employees correctly applied company policy. Walmart Canada noted that there are no age restrictions for purchasing gift cards in their stores, and that sales of activated gift cards are final.
