Chile health and housing initiatives
Entities: Ministry of Housing and Urbanism (Minvu) · San Fernando · Carlos Seitz · Servicio de Atención Primaria de Urgencia de Alta Resolutividad (SAR) · Servicio País
Overview
In late July 2026 the Chilean government announced several new investments aimed at improving public health and living conditions in vulnerable regions. The Los Lagos regional ministry launched a $20 million Healthy Environments Fund to support projects such as physical‑activity workshops, school and community gardens, and health‑education campaigns for the most at‑risk households. At the same time, a partnership involving Servicio País, the Foundation Superación de la Pobreza, the Ministry of Housing and Urbanism and Serviu was sent to the remote Islas Huichas in Aysén to address severe housing deficits and reduce territorial isolation.
Separately, the Ministry of Health and the O’Higgins regional government secured the remaining resources needed to complete a new Centro de Salud Familiar (CESFAM) and a high‑resolution primary‑care urgent‑attention service (SAR) in San Fernando. The facility, funded with 12.3 million Chilean pesos, will provide medical, dental, emergency and specialized care for more than 30 000 residents, accelerating approvals to open as soon as possible. Together, these actions illustrate a coordinated push to expand primary‑care coverage and improve habitability across Chile’s more isolated and underserved communities.
