Chile Los Lagos education initiatives

Overview

Chile's Los Lagos region has been expanding its public‑private education programmes. In early July, the Los Lagos Network and a new Subantarctic curriculum were launched, aiming to reach roughly 30,000 students across the region. By the end of the month, the Patio Vivo programme, in partnership with local foundations and the Servicio Local de Educación Pública, opened two outdoor learning sites at technical‑professional schools in Puerto Varas and Los Muermos. The facilities feature greenhouses, garden plots, composting areas and grey‑water irrigation, designed to embed sustainability into the curriculum. The project will serve about 800 students and provide training for 79 teachers, extending the broader regional effort to integrate nature‑based education.
