Chilean 2027 budget oversight and data proposals

The Chilean government has proposed measures within the 2027 Budget Law to strengthen fiscal oversight through increased funding and enhanced data utilization.

One component of the proposal involves a significant budget increase for the Comptroller General of the Republic (CGR). The plan allocates approximately $130,960 million to the agency, representing an 11.7% nominal increase over the 2026 base. This funding aims to support the hiring of 75 new staff members and a 52.2% increase in computer program spending, which includes $185 million for institutional subscriptions to advanced artificial intelligence models to improve data crossing capabilities.

Additionally, the government has introduced a new clause in the 2027 Budget Law to intensify the use of personal data for oversight. This provision, included in 27 of the 33 budget items across ministries such as Health, Education, and Justice, would allow state institutions to cross-reference information to verify eligibility for state benefits and detect irregularities. Under this clause, individuals applying for state-funded benefits would be deemed to have authorized the processing of their personal data by state administration agencies.
