Chilean agricultural export expansion
Overview
Chilean agricultural exports are experiencing significant growth across multiple global markets. During the 2025-2026 season, fruit exports to the United States reached record levels, with over 14.4 million boxes of oranges, apples, mandarins, and cherries certified by the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
In addition to the United States, Chile is aggressively expanding its presence in Asia and other developing regions. The dried prune industry saw a 400% increase in exports to India between 2023 and 2026. The Chilean Kiwi Committee is also targeting Asian markets, aiming to increase production volumes by 50% to 55% by 2030.
To reduce heavy reliance on China, which currently accounts for 77% of Chile’s fruit shipments to the Asian region, exporters are implementing diversification strategies. South Korea is being positioned as a strategic platform for Northeast Asian expansion, leveraging a Free Trade Agreement to increase exports of blueberries, cherries, lemons, and kiwifruit. To meet Korean consumer preferences, exporters are adapting marketing and logistics, specifically cold chain management.
Simultaneously, the industry is targeting Southeast Asian markets like Vietnam and Indonesia, where current export volumes are approximately 0.5%. New phytosanitary protocols, such as a recent agreement for air shipments, have reinforced cherry access to Vietnam. Chilean representatives plan to use international forums, including the APEC CEO Summit in Vietnam, to further promote their products.
