Chilean conservation centennial commemorations
Overview
Chile is commemorating a century of environmental conservation through various public exhibitions and infrastructure improvements.
In the Tarapacá region, CONAF is hosting a photography exhibition at the Geoglifos de Pintados Site Museum. The display, which runs until September 13, connects landscapes from southern and northern Chile, featuring images from the Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park and protected areas such as Volcán Isluga National Park, Pampa del Tamarugal National Reserve, and Salar del Huasco National Reserve. Regional director Víctor Quezada stated the exhibition aims to help the public understand the importance of conserving diverse ecosystems.
Simultaneously, the ‘100 Years of Conservation in Chile’ itinerant exhibition was launched in Puerto Varas by Fundación Parque Tantauco and Fundación Rewilding Chile to highlight biodiversity protection milestones. Additionally, in Punta Arenas, the Magallanes National Reserve inaugurated a remodeled visitor center. Funded by the National Heritage Service, the facility includes a mini-museum with 3D panels detailing local flora, fauna, geology, and archaeology to showcase the region's natural and ancestral history.
