Chilean consumer protection inspections
Overview
Chile’s National Consumer Service (SERNAC) has initiated a series of nationwide inspection campaigns to ensure compliance with consumer protection laws across different service sectors.
In mid-August, inspections began targeting aesthetic centers in 14 regions. These efforts focus on protecting consumer health by verifying sanitary authorizations, ensuring the use of registered products, and mandating written informed consent for invasive procedures. Authorities are also monitoring for misleading advertising and ensuring prices are clearly displayed in Chilean pesos.
By late August, the inspection scope expanded to include thermal centers, starting in the La Araucanía and Los Ríos regions. In coordination with the National Tourism Service (SERNATUR), these oversight activities focus on pricing transparency for services and rentals, physical safety measures such as non-slip flooring and emergency signage, and pool safety protocols including depth communication and lifeguard presence.
