Chilean maritime search for Sea King II

Overview

The Chilean Navy launched an extensive search and rescue operation following the loss of contact with the motorboat ‘Sea King II’ on October 18 in the Angostura Inglesa sector of the Puerto Edén jurisdiction. The operation involved several maritime units, including the Maritime Action Boat Casma and the LSR Kawesqar, working alongside local fishing vessels.

On October 21, the motorboat ‘Sea King II’ was located, and the body of one crew member was discovered near Moat Island in the Última Esperanza province by fishing crews and the maritime unit LSR ‘Kawesqar’. Criminal investigators from the PDI (Investigative Police) conducted a medical examination of the deceased, which found “no external injuries suggesting third-party involvement”.

While the vessel and one crew member have been accounted for, search operations continue to locate the second missing crew member. The operation has utilized multiple naval units and aerial support from the Southern Aeronaval Group.
