Chilean national Booktubers reading initiative

Overview

The Chilean Ministry of Education’s School Reading and Library Center (CRA) has implemented the sixth edition of the national ‘Booktubers’ initiative, a competition encouraging students from preschool through high school to promote literacy by recording short video reviews of their favorite books.

The program has seen significant regional engagement across Chile. In the La Araucanía region, eight students were recognized as part of a record-breaking national pool of 4,460 participants. Regional education officials noted that the initiative supports the ‘Plan Chile Avanza y Aprende’ by using students as literacy ambassadors.

In other regions, the competition has also yielded winners. In Los Ríos, eight students were honored for reviews covering themes such as fantasy and the environment. In the Tarapacá Region, nine students were selected as regional representatives from a group of approximately 150 participants who addressed the question, ‘Which book changed your life?’
