Chilean Navy maritime operations and exercises

Overview

The Chilean Navy has conducted a series of domestic and international maritime operations showcasing its combat and interoperability capabilities.

In early September, President José Antonio Kast observed naval combat demonstrations in the Magellan Strait. These exercises within the Austral Operations Theater included submarine attack maneuvers for strategic deterrence, maritime interdiction operations involving aircraft fast-rope insertion, and replenishment at sea maneuvers.

Following these domestic demonstrations, the Navy expanded its international presence through multinational exercises. The ocean patrol vessel ‘Cabo Odger’ deployed to Peru for the UNITAS exercise to support search and rescue and maritime security among approximately 24 nations. Concurrently, the frigate ‘Almirante Cochrane’ completed Operation Pacific 2026, which included participation in the RIMPAC exercise and its debut in Pacific Dragon, an integrated air and missile defense exercise involving the United States, Japan, and South Korea.
