Chilean regional development and resource management

Overview

Chilean government agencies have initiated several programs focused on resource management and regional development. The National Irrigation Commission announced $600 million in funding for water management projects in the Atacama and Coquimbo regions to improve water security for agricultural communities. Simultaneously, the National Mining Company selected 24 technological solutions for its innovation program to address operational challenges in various mining plants.

Furthering regional development, the Ministry of National Assets announced plans to auction state-owned land. In the Atacama region, the “Bahía Inglesa Florece” program proposes a master plan for coastal land in Caldera for tourism and real estate, though local officials have raised concerns regarding community consultation and infrastructure. In the Tarapacá region, the government presented a plan for the sale of industrial, agricultural, and tourism-related fiscal properties scheduled for 2027, a move welcomed by local business leaders as a potential driver for investment.
