Chilean regional programs for women's economic empowerment

Overview

Chile has implemented various regional initiatives aimed at enhancing the economic autonomy and professional skills of women through specialized training and financial support.

In the Los Ríos Region, the Academia Mujer Emprende program provided management tools and networking to 90 entrepreneurs. Other vocational efforts include Sence training in Chillán for construction and gastronomy, manicure courses in Tarapacá, and caregiver certification in Malleco. Additionally, the Tarapacá region introduced the ‘Tarjeta Banco de Materiales’ housing subsidy for female heads of household.

Expanding on these efforts, Essbio and the National Service for Women and Gender Equality (SernamEG) launched the ‘Mujeres Gásfiter’ (Women Plumbers) program in the O’Higgins Region. This initiative provides 20 women with technical training in sanitary installations and plant operation to increase employability in traditionally male-dominated sectors.
