Chile-Argentina education and workforce programs

Overview

In late July, Chile’s AIEP highlighted a surge of adult workers returning to university to upgrade skills while remaining employed, with more than half of 2025 graduates already in the labour market. The institute emphasized flexible study options and personal success stories, underscoring lifelong learning as a key to employability.

A week later, a joint effort in Argentina and Chile expanded the focus to technical‑professional education. In Argentina’s Santa Cruz province, authorities conducted a diagnostic of technical schools to modernise curricula, improve equipment, and align training with regional industry needs. In Chile, a workshop for secondary technical teachers introduced foreign‑trade concepts and public‑agency roles, aiming to embed international commercial policy into classroom instruction. Together, the initiatives illustrate a regional push to integrate education more tightly with labour‑market demands and economic development.

By August 2026, these efforts evolved into more structured institutional reforms. In Argentina, the Provincial Education Council, Fundación Banco Santa Cruz, and the National Institute of Technological Education conducted territorial diagnostics at several industrial schools in Santa Cruz. This assessment of infrastructure and equipment serves as the foundation for a programme to modernise technical school cycles and link training to the regional productive sector. In Chile, SUBREI and Red Futuro Técnico continued teacher training in Valparaíso to connect technical education with the globalised economy.

Simultaneously, higher education institutions are adapting to technological shifts. Chile’s Universidad de La Frontera launched a redesign of seven pedagogy programs to be implemented by 2028, integrating national standards and technological advancements. In Argentina, the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba is conducting prospective analyses regarding the impact of artificial intelligence on teaching and the needs of an aging student population seeking retraining.
