In mid‑July, China reported a 363.2 billion‑yuan fixed‑asset investment in its national railway system, a modest 2.1 % rise year‑on‑year, and the commissioning of 355.2 km of new lines, including the Xi’an‑Shiyan high‑speed route, the fully operational Wuhan‑Xi’an corridor, and a Beijing‑sub‑center commuter line. Ongoing projects such as the Xiong’an‑Shangqiu segment and the Harbin‑Yichun high‑speed railway entered joint‑testing phases, while major corridors like Chengdu‑Chongqing and Shanghai‑Chongqing‑Chengdu reported critical engineering progress.

By the end of July, the summer travel period moved more than 4.32 billion passengers across the network, driven by student trips, tourism and family visits. Railway authorities added capacity with extra trains, double‑heading high‑speed sets and additional cars on conventional services. In Chongqing, stations handled over 700,000 travelers, with Chongqing East alone seeing a 31 % year‑on‑year increase. The network also welcomed new high‑speed sections and stations—including the Wuhan‑Xi’an segment, a Beijing suburban line, Xi’an East and Foshan stations—further tightening connectivity and supporting the surge in demand.
