China unmanned freight vehicle rollout

In late July 2026 Chinese autonomous‑driving firms began shifting from passenger‑car projects to large‑scale unmanned logistics. The first snapshot (24 July) highlighted several companies launching L4‑level delivery vans and noted Momenta’s entry into the cargo market with its Robovan platform, operating in Suzhou and already deployed on over one million vehicles worldwide.

Three days later (27 July) Momenta’s driverless Robovan parcels were reported in Suzhou’s Xiangcheng district, using a map‑free R7 world model that leverages billions of kilometres of data to cut mapping costs. JD Logistics introduced a “unmanned vehicle + subway” same‑city delivery system in Shenzhen, moving packages between warehouses, autonomous vans and metro trains, and had nearly 100 unmanned vehicles active across 22 hubs with 121 night‑delivery routes. The progression shows a move from initial production and licensing announcements to concrete operational deployments and expanded multimodal delivery solutions.
