Chinese electric heavy equipment factories in Indonesia
Overview
In July 2026 Chinese heavy‑equipment maker LiuGong broke ground on Indonesia’s first electric heavy‑equipment plant in Karawang, West Java. The facility, slated to produce up to 5,000 units annually, will feature extensive automation, incorporate 30 % green energy and aim to close the gap between Indonesia’s demand of roughly 19,000 units and its limited domestic output.
Later that month XCMG Group inaugurated its Indonesia New Energy Manufacturing Base at Weda Bay Industrial Park in North Maluku. The plant, the company’s first overseas new‑energy factory, began delivering electric construction machinery to partner Tsingshan Holding Group and integrates localized R&D, production, parts‑remanufacturing and on‑site services. Both projects underscore a broader push by Chinese manufacturers to supply Indonesia’s construction, mining and infrastructure sectors with domestically produced, low‑carbon equipment.
Together, the launches illustrate an expanding Chinese footprint in Indonesia’s green‑equipment supply chain, targeting faster delivery, reduced procurement costs and support for the country’s low‑carbon transition.
