Cholera outbreak in Abyan, Yemen
Overview
Following reports of infections and a fatality in displaced persons camps, health organizations and local authorities in Abyan coordinated an emergency response. An initial meeting in Aden involving over 15 organizations, including Doctors Without Borders, led to agreements on providing essential medicines and supporting health facilities.
Subsequent efforts focused on the distribution of critical medical supplies, such as intravenous fluids and antibiotics, to the Zinjibar, Lawdar, and Mudiyah districts, as well as the Al-Koud quarantine area. Support facilitated by the National Drug Supply Program and the Ministry of Public Health and Population is being supplemented by aid from the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, which is providing emergency drugs to Al-Razi Hospital and other facilities near contact lines.
