Christian Bermúdez career conclusion with Atlante

Overview

Midfielder Christian ‘Hobbit’ Bermúdez returned to Liga MX with Atlante in September 2026, marking his first appearance in the Mexican top division in 3,409 days. The 39-year-old, who previously suffered a tibia and fibula fracture in 2024, entered as a substitute during a match against Puebla.

Following his return, Atlante FC announced that the club will honor Bermúdez with a tribute at Estadio Banorte on October 16 during a match against Pumas. The ceremony recognizes his status as a club legend, noting his contributions to various titles including the 2007 league win.

As the October 16 fixture approaches, the match is scheduled to take place at Estadio Azul. Bermúdez has indicated that his primary focus remains on training at his ‘maximum capacity’ to earn more playing time, rather than focusing on the potential tribute.

Both clubs enter the matchup with managers earning similar annual salaries; Atlante’s Miguel Herrera and Pumas’ Esteban Solari both reportedly earn approximately 1.5 million dollars per year.
