Cinanima International Animation Film Festival

Overview

The 50th anniversary edition of the Cinanima International Animation Film Festival has commenced in Espinho, Portugal. The 17 day event, themed “The Dream Commands Life,” features 167 films in competition and 226 additional works through various exhibitions, masterclasses, and school programs.

Programmer André Ramada noted that the selection showcases diverse techniques, including films made with coffee foam or hand-embroidered. While themes of trauma and future concerns persist, the festival shows a shift toward comedy and carefree acceptance. Jorge Ratola, president of the Espinho Municipal Council, stated the festival serves as an asset for the municipality by stimulating the local economy and projecting the city internationally.
