CineEco environmental film festival in Portugal
Overview
The 32nd edition of CineEco, the Serra da Estrela International Environmental Film Festival, is scheduled to take place in Seia, Portugal, from October 9 to 17. The festival will feature 106 films in total, including 87 films from 34 different countries participating across six main official competitions.
The selection, drawn from 410 submissions, includes fiction, documentaries, and visual arts works by 144 directors. Ten international feature films will make their absolute Portuguese premieres, having previously been screened at major festivals such as Cannes, Sundance, and Rotterdam.
This edition focuses on contemporary environmental themes, such as climate apartheid, environmental migration, and the effects of modern development on traditional communities. Specific highlighted works include ‘On the Sea’, which examines Welsh fishing communities, and ‘Let Our Mountains Live’, which follows Sami reindeer herders facing challenges from wind farm construction.
