Following the decommissioning of a local coal-fired power plant, this development is viewed as a key component of the region’s energy transition. Local political and community groups have suggested that the project be integrated into a larger industrial hub, potentially transforming Civitavecchia into a “hydrogen valley” that includes green hydrogen conversion, battery storage, and solar-powered port facilities.
