Clinical research on finerenone for kidney and heart health

Recent clinical analyses have highlighted the efficacy of the medication finerenone in treating various renal and cardiovascular conditions.

A secondary analysis of the FINEARTS-HF trial, published in JAMA Cardiology, established that undiagnosed chronic kidney disease (CKD) increases the risk of cardiovascular death and heart failure events in patients with heart failure. The study noted that finerenone remained consistently effective in improving heart failure outcomes regardless of a patient’s CKD status.

Further research from the Phase III FIND-CKD clinical trial, presented at the American Society of Nephrology Kidney Week 2026, demonstrated that finerenone provides benefits for non-diabetic chronic kidney disease patients. In those with IgA nephropathy, the drug reduced the urine protein-to-creatinine ratio by 51% compared to a placebo over 12 months. For patients with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, the medication achieved a 41% reduction in the urine protein-to-creatinine ratio and a 40% reduction in the albumin-to-creatinine ratio after one year, while also reducing the combined risk of renal failure or severe deterioration.
