Club Atlético Sarmiento institutional and sporting status

Overview

Club Atlético Sarmiento has faced significant institutional and competitive challenges. President Mauricio González initially addressed the club’s relegation from the Federal A tournament, citing a financial crisis, unpaid wages, and structural difficulties in maintaining infrastructure. González noted that while he accepted responsibility, the crisis involved the board, technical staff, and players.

Following these setbacks, the club’s sporting situation evolved during the Torneo Clausura. Sarmiento secured a 3-1 victory against Aldosivi in Mar del Plata. Although Aldosivi’s Lucas Castro scored an early equalizer, Sarmiento responded with two goals in the final four minutes of the match, scored by Julián Mavilla and Jonathan Herrera. This victory improved Sarmiento’s standing, moving the team closer to playoff qualification and maintaining its prospects for the Copa Sudamericana.

In the 12th round of the Torneo Clausura, this result continues to significantly complicate Aldosivi’s fight to avoid relegation. Meanwhile, other league developments include Defensa y Justicia climbing to second place in Zona A following a 2-0 win over Unión de Santa Fe. In that match, goals from Juan Gutiérrez and César Pérez late in the first half propelled the visitors to second place, trailing only Instituto de Córdoba. Despite being reduced to ten men following a red card to Santiago Sosa, Defensa y Justicia maintained their lead. Conversely, Unión faces mounting pressure following its fourth consecutive loss, which dropped the team to tenth place and distanced them from playoff positions. This result has intensified pressure on Unión's manager, Leonardo Madelón, who recently dismissed rumors of his resignation despite fan dissatisfaction.
