Cocaine trafficking enforcement in Switzerland

Overview

Recent law enforcement actions in Switzerland have targeted cocaine trafficking through vehicle inspections and investigations into social media-coordinated transactions.

In Canton Aargau, customs officials from the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (BAZG) seized approximately 2.5 kilograms of cocaine during a vehicle inspection in Mumpf. The seizure occurred after a mobile patrol stopped a Swiss-registered car driven by a 40-year-old German national who was wanted for arrest and in possession of forged identification. The narcotics were found hidden within a compartment in the vehicle’s center console.

In a separate case, a 58-year-old woman and her 22-year-old son were sentenced following an investigation into a cocaine purchase. The woman had traveled from Valais to Bern to retrieve cocaine ordered by her son via Snapchat. Authorities apprehended the woman during the transaction and subsequently discovered a large quantity of marijuana at the son’s residence. The son was ordered to pay fines and procedural costs, while the mother received a suspended fine.
