Coinbase expansion in Canadian crypto markets
Overview
Coinbase has expanded its presence in the Canadian digital asset market through strategic partnerships and new product launches.
Initially, Webull Canada announced it would expand its service offerings to include cryptocurrency trading via an infrastructure partnership with Coinbase. Utilizing Coinbase’s ‘Crypto-as-a-Service’ platform, Webull will allow customers to access assets such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana, while Coinbase manages liquidity and custody.
Subsequently, Coinbase launched regulated crypto derivatives trading in Canada through Coinbase Financial Markets, a futures commission merchant registered with the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission. This marks the first time a major crypto-native platform has offered direct native crypto futures in the region.
The lineup includes 23 crypto perpetual and dated futures contracts tied to assets such as Bitcoin, Ether, and Solana, as well as five commodity futures linked to gold, silver, and oil, and index futures like the COIN50. These products utilize nano-sized positions and allow for leverage of up to 10x. Access is restricted to eligible sophisticated investors, such as registered investment advisers, dealers, or individuals with at least $5 million in net financial assets.
