Overview

Colombia is advancing several electricity transmission and interconnection projects. The Colombian Energy Regulation Commission (CREG) established a remuneration framework to facilitate a planned cross-border electricity interconnection with Panama, aiming to improve financial viability and regulatory clarity through coordination with Panama's regulator, ASEP.

Domestically, the National Environmental Licensing Authority (ANLA) approved modifications to the environmental license for the La Loma–Sogamoso 500 kV transmission line, allowing for additional construction to transport power from wind farms in La Guajira to central Colombia. Additionally, the Governor of Bolívar reported that the Macagua substation requires a new transmission line to alleviate regional overloading and prevent outages.
