Colombia rural and indigenous housing initiatives
Overview
Colombia is implementing various rural and indigenous housing initiatives through government, private sector, and community cooperation.
In Arauca, the Minister of Housing, City, and Territory visited the region to review infrastructure projects. A key component involves the Fundación El Alcaraván, which has delivered over 1,500 homes through social investments from SierraCol Energy and Ecopetrol. A new phase aims to provide 97 additional housing solutions for families in Arauca and Arauquita.
In the Cesar department, specifically in Valledupar, over 4 billion pesos were invested to provide housing improvements for 171 Kankuamo indigenous families. This is part of a larger departmental program that has allocated 74.9 billion pesos for 3,603 slots, with 2,683 improvements completed across 21 municipalities. Additionally, in Quibdó, Chocó, construction materials were delivered to support three indigenous families from the Casimiro community through a coordinated effort between the Cundinamarca Governorate and the Quibdó Mayor’s Office.
