The 2026 Colorado Buffaloes football season began amid speculation regarding quarterback Julian Lewis. Earlier reports indicated that Lewis had explored potential interest in transferring to Georgia Tech following coaching changes at Colorado, though he ultimately remained with the Buffaloes under head coach Deion Sanders.

Following the season opener, Lewis demonstrated significant performance during a 52-21 victory over Weber State, improving the team to a 2-0 start. Lewis set a program record with 211 passing yards in the first quarter and finished the game with 366 passing yards on 17-of-23 completions, including touchdown passes to DeAndre Moore Jr., Joseph Williams, and Ernest Campbell. Running back Micah Welch recorded 106 rushing yards, marking the first time a Colorado player has surpassed 100 rushing yards in a single game since Sanders arrived as head coach.
