Comando Vermelho criminal faction law enforcement operations

Law enforcement operations targeting the Comando Vermelho criminal faction have resulted in fatal confrontations with suspected leaders in different Brazilian regions.

In Rio de Janeiro, police conducted ‘Operação Contenção’ to disrupt the faction’s territorial expansion. During an action in the Gardênia Azul community, Pierre Sá da Silva, known as ‘PQD’, a prominent leader in the Southwest Zone, died following a confrontation with civil police. Authorities identified Silva as a key figure managing drug trafficking and coordinating violence in several communities.

In Alagoas, a similar confrontation occurred during ‘Operação Eclipse Fase 2’ in Coruripe. Daniel Berto de Oliveira, known as ‘Dan’ or ‘Ratão’, a suspected Comando Vermelho member, died after refusing to surrender and opening fire on officers. Prior to the incident, Oliveira had issued threats on social media, including claims that Coruripe ‘would become too small’ and threats to use a grenade against a public security center. During the Alagoas operation, police seized firearms, narcotics, and a grenade, and discovered clandestine cameras used by criminals to monitor police movements.
