Community and sports events in Funchal

Overview

Funchal has hosted various community-focused events. In early October, the University of Madeira – Penteada Campus served as the venue for the 10th National Gymnastics Congress and the 8th International Gymnastics Congress. The event aimed to promote gymnastics development regionally and internationally through training for sports agents.

Following this, the Funchal Municipality organized the second edition of the ‘Longevidade na Primeira Pessoa’ event at the Colégio dos Jesuítas. This initiative focused on promoting active and healthy aging, featuring roundtable discussions with professionals and public figures to address longevity, autonomy, and dignity. During the event, Mayor Jorge Carvalho highlighted municipal support for various age groups, including physical activity programs and mobility assistance such as ‘Taxi +75’ for residents over 75.
