Compromís forms 'Compromís-Front Valencià' coalition
Overview
The Valencian political group Compromís has successfully finalized an ‘in extremis’ agreement to form the ‘Compromís-Front Valencià’ coalition for the upcoming elections on November 29.
Following previous efforts to establish an autonomous, ‘100% Valencian’ left-wing front, negotiations concluded just before the legal registration deadline. The alliance includes Compromís, Podemos, Esquerra Unida del País Valencià (EUPV), and Esquerra Republicana del País Valencià (ERPV).
A critical breakthrough was achieved when EUPV leadership reversed an earlier rejection, approving the pact with 66% support after intense discussions regarding the coalition’s name and candidate visibility. Under the terms of the agreement, Compromís will lead the electoral lists in Valencia and Castellón, while Podemos will head the list in Alicante.
While this regional coalition has been secured, national-level negotiations between Frente Amplio and Podemos remain complex. Although unity agreements have been reached in the Canary Islands, Aragon, and the Balearic Islands, tensions persist in Madrid and Catalonia, where Podemos has declined to include those territories in its current proposals for unity.
