Comunes party loss of political status in Colombia

Overview

The Comunes party, a political organization formed following the 2016 Peace Agreement and the demobilization of the FARC, has lost its legal status and representation in the Colombian Congress.

Following the legislative elections on March 8, 2026, the party failed to secure the 3% threshold of valid votes required under Article 108 of the Constitution to maintain its legal standing. Although the party ran as part of a coalition with the Fuerza Ciudadana party, the alliance did not achieve the necessary representation in the Senate or the House of Representatives.

The Colombian National Electoral Council (CNE) has officially revoked the party’s legal status and removed it from the Single Registry of Parties. This marks the end of a special representation regime that had guaranteed the party 10 seats—five in the Senate and five in the House—for two consecutive legislative periods (2018-2022 and 2022-2026).
