Conagra discontinuation of Celeste pizza brand
Overview
Conagra Brands has announced the discontinuation of the Mama Celeste frozen pizza brand. The decision was disclosed during the company’s fiscal first-quarter 2027 earnings call on September 30.
CEO John Brase explained that the move is part of a broader strategy to exit “small, low-profit brands” in order to boost margins and simplify the company’s core platforms. Brase noted that Conagra currently manages over 400 single-serve meal stock-keeping units and is seeking a “more productive assortment” by reducing its sprawling portfolio.
Originally established in 1937 as a Chicago restaurant by the Lizio family, the brand transitioned to pizza production in 1962. Following several ownership changes involving Quaker Oats, Aurora Foods, and Pinnacle Foods, the brand was acquired by Conagra in 2018.
Manufacturing of Celeste has now ceased entirely. While the budget-friendly products may remain available at some retail locations, they will only be sold until current inventory is depleted.
