In Acapulco, Guerrero, Conagua is working to strengthen water infrastructure to protect against weather-related disruptions like intense rains and cyclones. Efforts include constructing radial wells to extract filtered subsoil water, replacing traditional pumps with submersible models, elevating equipment to heights of 9 to 11 meters, and installing high-altitude storage tanks to allow for gravity-based distribution during electrical grid failures.
In Michoacán, Conagua is investing approximately 175.6 million pesos to rehabilitate six wastewater treatment plants within the Lake Pátzcuaro basin. This initiative aims to combat pollution and restore biodiversity. As of late August 2026, the Las Garzas plant rehabilitation is complete, the Janitzio plant is 80 percent finished, and the San Pedrito plant is 19 percent complete. Work is scheduled to begin on three additional plants in San Andrés Ziróndaro, Quiroga, and Tzintzuntán.
