Contemporary art exhibitions in Italy

Overview

In early September 2026, several contemporary art exhibitions were announced across Italy.

Initial programming included the ‘RANDAGI’ exhibition at Orizzonti Arte Contemporanea, featuring artists Gianfranco Asveri and Gianmaria Giannetti, and the ‘Territori Sensibili’ review in Montegiorgio. The latter, curated by Luigi Lai and Nancy Biraschi, featured 62 artists with the goal of integrating art into inland villages to promote local heritage.

Subsequent announcements detailed mid-September events in Pisa, including the 31st edition of ContempoART at the GAMeC CentroArteModerna gallery, curated by Massimiliano Sbrana. Additionally, Studio 74 scheduled the closing of Philippe Rebosz’s solo exhibition, ‘Recurrence’, which explored the intersection of organic forms and abstract compositions.

By mid-September, the ContempoART 2026 exhibition officially opened in Pisa. Further scheduled events in Italy include the ‘LandEscape’ tri-person exhibition by Alberto Colliva, Filippo Maestroni, and Claudio Valerio, set to begin at Studio la Linea Verticale in Bologna on September 24. Additionally, the ‘Over The Real’ festival is slated to host video art and multimedia sessions in Lucca and Pietrasanta from September 26 to October 4. Other regional highlights include Peppe Ferraro’s ‘Zolle’ exhibition in Marcianise, which explores themes of earth and regeneration, and the commencement of a new season for the Bottega dell'Arte in Missaglia.

Newer developments include the unveiling of the Cocif Collection in Longiano, which features 20th-century masters such as Giorgio de Chirico and Antonio Ligabue. Furthermore, Laura Libera Lupo is set to present Mediterranean-themed works in Salerno.
