Controversy over Fauzi film teaser

Overview

Chandra Kumar Bose, the grandnephew of Indian freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, has demanded the withdrawal of the teaser for the upcoming film ‘Fauzi’, starring Prabhas. Representing ‘The Open Platform for Netaji’, Bose argues that the film distorts historical facts by blending real figures with fictional narratives.

The controversy involves a dramatized sequence set in Berlin in 1942, depicting a meeting between Subhas Chandra Bose and Adolf Hitler where the historical figure introduces a fictional spy character. Bose has characterized the use of national icons to validate invented espionage stories as a “crime” that diminishes the dignity of historical figures.

Bose has called for a public apology from director Hanu Raghavapudi and production house Mythri Movie Makers. Additionally, he has written to India’s Information and Broadcasting Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, requesting an investigation into the Censor Board’s approval process and seeking action against officials who permitted the footage. The film is scheduled for release in March 2027.
