Coritiba defeats Vitória 2-0 in relegation battle

Overview

Coritiba and Vitória met at the Couto Pereira stadium for the 33rd round of the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, a match described as a crucial relegation battle.

Coritiba secured a 2-0 victory, ending a seven-match winless streak and a 69-day drought for home wins. The goals were scored in the second half by Pedro Rocha, who scored in the 13th minute of the half following a rebound from a Sebastián Gómez shot, and Tinga, who secured the win ten minutes later with a header from a corner kick. Under the interim leadership of Guilherme Bossle, following the dismissal of coach Fernando Seabra, the win moved Coritiba to 42 points and 11th place. This result established a six-point lead over Corinthians, who are currently in the relegation zone.

For Vitória, the defeat extended a four-match winless run and maintained their struggle to secure an away victory during the 2026 season. Despite the return of captain Gabriel Baralhas, defender Cacá, and attacker Renê, the team remains in 14th place with 38 points, sitting just two points above the relegation zone. Following the match, Vitória coach Jair Ventura took responsibility for the defeat and called on supporters to assist the team in upcoming home matches.
