Corruption investigations and integrity efforts in Colombia

Overview

Authorities in Colombia have arrested eight active-duty military personnel and one retired sergeant following an 18-month investigation into a corruption network within the National Army. The suspects, including three majors and several sergeants, are accused of misappropriating public funds and falsifying documents related to food budget allocations for the Special Energetic and Road Battalion No. 10 in Ocaña, Norte de Santander.

In response to such issues, the Colombian Military Forces held a seminar on August 25, 2026, focused on institutional integrity and anti-corruption. Led by the Directorate for the Application of Transparency and Ethics Norms (DANTE), the session took place at the Superior War College ‘General Rafael Reyes Prieto’.

Vice Admiral Carlos Enrique Carrasquilla Gómez, Chief of the Joint Staff, presided over the event, which was attended by officers and civilian personnel from the National Army, Navy, and Air Force. He emphasized that integrity is a “strategic capability essential for maintaining institutional legitimacy and public trust,” noting that the military must prevent corruption by identifying risks, strengthening controls, and promoting official reporting channels.
