Costa Rica business focus on AI and governance

Costa Rican business leaders and organizations are increasingly focusing on the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and corporate governance to navigate technological and economic shifts.

Initial developments centered on the Corporate Governance Institute of Costa Rica (IGCCR) announcing its Annual Corporate Governance Congress. The summit, themed ‘Governance with Purpose: Value Creation in a Transforming Environment’, aimed to address leadership structures and the integration of AI within corporate frameworks to align with OECD guidelines.

Subsequent discussions expanded to include the intersection of AI with neuroscience and consumer behavior. At the Marketing Tech Summit Costa Rica, executives proposed combining AI with behavioral sciences to better understand emotional logic in consumers. Furthermore, reports indicate that while 51% of organizations in the region identify AI as a priority, only 37% are currently investing in its implementation. Corporate reputation also remains a critical concern, with 59% of professionals in Central America and the Caribbean viewing reputational risk as a priority issue.
