Costa Rican sports infrastructure and talent development
Overview
Costa Rica is expanding its regional sports infrastructure and hosting capabilities through various national and international initiatives.
In Jacó, the National BMX Freestyle Championship was held at Bac Park 10cio, marking the third anniversary of the facility. Concurrently, in Limón, the Municipality and the Costa Rican Football Federation signed an agreement to implement the FIFA Talent Development Scheme (TDS) at the Juan Gobán stadium to train young football prospects.
The country is also increasing its role in international youth competitions. The National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA), in alliance with the Costa Rican Surfing Federation, has scheduled five tournament dates across Playa Jacó, Playa Santa Teresa, and Guanacaste to support athletes under 21. Furthermore, Limón is set to host the World Triathlon Development Regional Cup, featuring elite athletes aged 16 to 23 from several Central American and Caribbean nations to promote sports tourism.
