Overview

Nigerian security forces have conducted multiple operations across the North-West region to disrupt terrorist and bandit networks.

In early September 2026, the Joint Task Force North-West, operating under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, carried out engagements in Zamfara and Kaduna states. In Zamfara, an ambush in the Shinkafi and Zurmi areas resulted in the neutralization of several terrorists and the seizure of an AK-47, an RPG launcher, and various ammunition. In Kaduna, troops intercepted a vehicle on the Saulawa-Zaria Road, where a suspect was neutralized and 793 rounds of ammunition were discovered concealed inside gari.

By mid-September 2026, a joint operation between the Kebbi State Police Command and the Nigerian Army targeted the Gumki Forest in the Kangiwa area. This raid aimed to disrupt routes used by bandits and members of the Lakurawa group. Security forces recovered firearms, ammunition, motorcycles, and military camouflage, while clearance operations continue in the region.
