Counterfeit book trafficking in Vietnam

Overview

Authorities in Vietnam have conducted separate investigations into the trafficking of counterfeit books in Dong Nai and Bac Ninh provinces.

In Dong Nai, police arrested Nguyen Tang Tien, owner of Tang Tien Bookstore, for allegedly purchasing approximately 33,809 counterfeit textbooks, workbooks, and English language books. The items, part of the ‘Chan troi sang tao’ series from the Vietnam Education Publishing House, had an estimated value of nearly 598 million VND.

In Bac Ninh, police initiated a criminal case against Duong Van Trong following the discovery of suspicious Facebook listings for children’s books and comics. A warehouse inspection led to the seizure of 4,723 counterfeit books across 67 titles, branded with names from several legitimate publishers including Hong Duc, Kim Dong, and Thanh Nien. Investigators determined the suspect purchased the goods cheaply through social media to mix them with genuine products.
