Counterfeit goods seizures in Chile

Overview

Authorities in Chile have conducted several operations to intercept counterfeit goods. In early August, the National Customs Service seized a container at the San Antonio port containing 113,500 counterfeit toys valued at over US$1.65 million. Officials noted the seizure, part of Operation Cono Sur, was intended to prevent the entry of potentially unsafe merchandise containing toxic or flammable materials during a period of high demand.

Later in the month, municipal inspectors in Temuco seized over 166 pieces of counterfeit clothing, including sportswear and t-shirts, valued at more than $3 million CLP. This operation targeted street vendors in the city center to combat illegal sales that impact the local economy.
