Crime and fraud in Oceanside, Vancouver Island

Overview

The Oceanside RCMP reported a high volume of criminal complaints in the Parksville and Qualicum Beach areas of Vancouver Island during late July and early August 2026.

During the week of July 20 to July 26, residents lost nearly $170,000 to various fraudulent activities. The RCMP received 322 complaints during this period, including a $120,000 cryptocurrency scam, a $20,000 loss involving an unregistered investment company, and business email compromise. Other reported crimes included thefts of bicycles and solar panels, vehicle tampering, and an attempted residential break-in.

In the following week, from July 27 to August 2, the number of complaints rose to 340. Reported incidents included package theft, the theft of musical instruments and paddle boards, a residential break-and-enter, and the theft of a wallet from an unlocked vehicle. Police also noted telephone scams targeting residents for financial services and phone company information, alongside instances of vandalism.
